Mililani Town and Mililani Mauka

IMG_7806

Situated in the heart of Oahu is the town of Mililani that is made up of Mililani Town and Mililani Mauka (inland or towards the mountains) which is the newer and more upscale section of the two, and lies east of Interstate H-2. For golfers, Mililani Golf Club is a challenging, 18-hole course. Mililani Technology Park, a development of Castle & Cooke Properties, Inc., is a heavily landscaped, campus-like park for high-tech companies and other services. With its own commercial shopping centers, schools, community centers and a golf course, Mililani resembles a modern American suburban town.

Living in the Central Oahu Area

Just north of Mililani lies the former plantation town of Wahiawa. Wahiawa’s most well-known attraction is the Dole Plantation, Oahu’s only remaining commercial pineapple grower and home of the Pineapple Garden Maze, the world’s largest maze measuring more than two acres with a two-and-a-half-mile path.More than one million visitors attempt to find their way out of the life-sized maze each year. After conquering the maze, take a leisurely ride on the Pineapple Express Train followed by a tasty pineapple ice cream treat. Pineapple roots run deep in Wahiawa.

Sponsored by the Wahiawa Historical Society, the Pineapple Festival is held once a year at Wahiawa District Park in May. The Wahiawa Botanical Gardens located on California Avenue is a hidden gem, one of five Honolulu Botanical Gardens and home to tropical flowers requiring a cooler environment. A special effort has been made to develop the collection of native Hawaiian plants here, and provides a beautiful background for family photos or a quiet picnic in the park.
